Every person on earth is a steward navigating this planet. Unfortunately, we are not doing a great job with it. The Earth is full of pollutants that are rendering it inhabitable for all living beings. Most of these pollutants are out in the world because humans are irresponsible with throwing the trash. Or we tend to use and manufacture things that are corrupting the very system we live in.
If we do not take action now, it will be too late to do anything. Fortunately, there are many things that we can do for the betterment of our environment. These steps are small, and you can employ them in your everyday life to ensure the earth keeps thriving.
Here are a few small changes you can make to protect the environment.
Stop using plastic
One of the best things you can do for the environment right now is to stop using plastic in its entirety. From plastic bags to utensils to anything remotely plastic, stop using them immediately. Switch to better options, like glass or biodegradable material, making it easy to recycle a product. Recycling plastic is never easy as it takes tons of years.
Here are some of the options:-
- Cloth bags- Instead of using a plastic bag, carry a cloth bag with you always. Even when you leave for office, have a cloth or biodegradable bag with you. That ensures that you don’t accept plastic bags from the shopkeepers.
- Glass or ceramic cups: Instead of using plastic cups for tea or coffee, use ceramic or glass cups. When you get takeaway coffee or tea, carry your cup and don't accept plastic cups.
Switch to biodegradable coffee pods
Do you use coffee pods? Yes, then make sure you use biodegradable coffee pods from Australia. Most coffee pods brands come in non-recyclable packaging, which is not ideal for the environment. They are challenging to recycle, and most often, they do not end up in the right place for recycling.
When you order biodegradable coffee pods from Nespresso brand, or other top brands, recycling it is easy. They provide you with an option to collect all the empty pods and send them to the company to take care of them.
If you love coffee, make this decision for the betterment of the environment.
Turn vegetarian for a day
If you love eating meat, it is time to start going vegetarian for just one day. Animal farming, which provides us with bacon and other forms of meat is the leading cause of changes in the climate. It increases greenhouse gases, and to make meat, you consume a lot of water, depleting another scarce resource.
So, if you eat meat seven days, try going vegetarian one day a week. Trust us, if every person follows this, it will make a ton of difference.
Do not waste food
Every one of us is at fault if we throw away edible food. There are days when you have extra food and fewer people to eat it. Instead of throwing it away, give it to charity. It feeds people who sleep hungry every day and you do not waste the resources that go into producing, cooking, and packaging the food products.
Embrace leftovers. Sure, eating pasta for lunch and dinner sounds boring, but it's better than throwing it away. You can add some fresh cheese and sauce to it and eat it with soup. No food wastage and less cooking time!
Get reusable bottles and cups
Some of us have jobs that need us to move continuously. Others have to move every day from home to office and for other chores. When you are on the move for any reason, you consume two things the most- water & coffee (or tea). Now, instead of getting bottled water that uses plastic, carry a bottle. It can be a glass bottle or copper one, and you can refill it from tons of water supply area that even has a water purifier. The same goes for coffee/tea, carry a reusable cup to cut back on plastic carry-on cups.
It can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Do it one step at a time, and it will not feel too challenging and you will start appreciating the better option gradually.
