Earlier during the rule of emperor, there was a tree-line canal that ran through the center of the market that reflected the moon.

Hence this was called the Moonlit place.
This canal was square shaped and the shops around it had been built to be arranged in a half-moon pattern around the square.
People believed that it was built so that the Emperor's favorite daughter Jahan Ara Begum could buy whatever she wanted and hence merchants and traders from all across the country flocked here.
Some people also believed that this was the hub of silver merchants and hence the name. (Silver is called Chandi in Hindi).
