Know what to do in lockdown!
For the vast majority of people, being in quarantine is a new experience! Being unable to conduct your everyday routines, like going to the shop, going for a coffee, going to work, and meeting up with friends, can have a detrimental effect on a person's mental health. We've never known a life where our movements are restricted, and we are told not to socialize or visit friends or family.
So what can you do?
So what are we allowed to do other than sitting at home, binge-watching streaming services like Netflix, or scrolling through social media! As we adjust to the New normal, here are a few ideas of things you might want to do to pass the time and keep you busy. If you have time to be bored, why not try out these seven ideas!
- Teach yourself something unique!
There are so many online courses these days. I mean, you can pretty much teach yourself anything from a new language to how to make candles! So what have you always wanted to learn but never had the time to do it? Well, now you have Time, so why not give it a go?
- A daily video chat
Research has shown that social interaction helps to improve our health and well-being.
Many of us are missing family and friends at this time; just because you have to distance physically socially, it doesn't mean you can't FaceTime and call your loved ones! Make a list of your friends and family, people you like to chat with and keep rotating the plan not to get borderline talking with the same person every day. If you speak with the same person every day, you will run out of things to say; after all, they are probably just as bored as you. So rotating your calls gives you more to say!
- Take a virtual tour – Zoom or Instagram
Now, you can walk through a museum on your computer, or even go for a ride at Disney World for free from the comfort of your COUCH! Many theatres have also gone online, and you can watch shows and musicals! You can also do things like joining an art workshop, listen to interviews, and even get involved with political discussions.
- Have a clear-out
What better time when you are stuck at home, with time to spare! We all have a cupboard, drawer, maybe a garage or shed that needs some TLC. So spend a few hours sorting through your cabinets or kitchen pantry, throw what's old or broken, and maybe put aside for the charity shop anything you don't use that is just taking up space!
- Take up cooking
Typically, home cooking is healthier. Takeaway food is a booming industry these days with many of us choosing to eat take away food rather than spending the time in the kitchen cooking.
Busy lifestyles can mean a lack of time! Well, now is the golden opportunity to learn how to cook. Cooking can be fun and gives you the chance to choose your menu and ingredients based on your taste and diet. You can even surprise your friends and family after the lockdown by treating them to a lovely home-cooked meal.
- Start a new hobby
Hobbies are great fun. There are many advantages to taking up a hobby, and depending on the hobby you are taking up; they can help de-stress you and elevate your mind to a new calm. A hobby could be something physical, like running and exercising. Or it might be peaceful, like building puzzles or knitting. Maybe you like gardening and want to grow yourself a herb garden!
- Grow your plants indoors
With your LED grow light, you can grow many plants indoors including:
- Various houseplants
- Orchids
- Some fruits
- Even vegetables.
An LED grows light
is ideal for getting seeds started!
The intensity of light that a plant receives helps it to grow. Choosing to use an LED grow light is by far the best solution, so get those seeds and plants flourishing!
