Imagine this: you are wandering in a high-end futuristic city. You look around, and you see all modern skyscrapers’ and high rise adorned with dazzling beauty. To top it you have the Sun painting the sky in brilliant color pallets which you haven’t seen yet as if nature had it kept secret for the world to develop to this day. Open your eyes and you are in Kuala Lumpur.
The largest Malay city, Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia. A city with an amazing cosmopolitan vibe, Kuala Lumpur, known as KL by the locals literally translates to “muddy confluence”. But don’t get your hopes down by this. The city is nothing as its name translates to. Nestled amidst modern glory and traditional cultural trip, KL is a magnificent city that you’ll remember forever.
The mouth-watering street foods, the bustling markets, the exciting and exuberant nightlife, the dramatic high rises and the welcoming locals make KL a perfect holiday retreat to a truly Asian avant-garde elegance. Here, I have compiled of all the places which I loved when I was in Kuala Lumpur. Although I stayed there for just two nights I tell you, it’s been one of the most memorable cities I’ve ever visited.
My much-loved places in Kuala Lumpur
- Petronas twin tower: Petronas tower had previously gained the title of the tallest towers in the world. Even today it holds the magnificent record of the tallest twin towers in the world. A trip here is a must when you are in the Malay capital city of Kuala Lumpur. These twin towers are the most iconic skyscrapers and the most talked about landmark of Kuala Lumpur. It lights up into a crown jewel at night and looks stunning. The opulent mall and garden at the lowest fall of the building are worth your time when exploring Petronas Twin towers. You can use monorail service of KL to get around this area. Avoid paying high prices to your cab drivers as this is one of the busiest streets of KL and you are bound to find traffic. So it’s best you avoid the mob and go for monorails. There are self-service ticket counters at the stations and the prices are average.
- Kuala Lumpur City Centre: Kuala Lumpur city center is just around the Petronas twin tower. It’s a modern city center with innovative architecture. The place is buzzing with high-end shopping squares, upscale fashion retailers, classy hotels, and supremely elegant and aristocratic Asian and European restaurants. Visit the place to see the futuristic skyscrapers of Asia that makes Malaysia a truly modern city in all of Asia.
- Batu Caves: Batu Caves is a must visit site in KL. It houses the gigantic holy statue of Lord Murugan. You have to rise up 272 stairs to reach the top of the temple. The picturesque natural wonderland of three caverns is made of limestones and in 400 million years old. The Batu caves are near KLCC and can be reached easily in a quick 30 minutes drive.
- Petalling Street: Your trip to KL shall be incomplete if you miss out on the Petalling Street. The place offers huge bargains on traditional products, artifacts, handmade crafts and other clothing. The Petalling Street offers a glimpse into the shopping spree of the KL-ites. If you have to buy mementos for your family then you should head down straight to pedaling street which’ll fulfill all your needs. Even if you do not like shopping, visit the place to explore the Malay culture, see their interesting and colorful life, selling clothes and handicrafts on push carts with the vibrant umbrella. The place is well connected but monorails and LRT stations that make the place very busy and crowded. The food here is mouth watering and are a must try when in KL.
- Jalan Alor: Have you ever imagined a dream road where you get the most amazing Chinese street food, so much so that you literally float out of the place because of food overdose. Jalan Alor is exactly that kind of place. The road is filled with street vendors selling sumptuous delights which I bet you won’t find in fancy restaurants in other parts of the city. The simple yet alluring décor of red lamps hanged on the streets with table and chairs sprung out on the roads, this place feeds your desire for a simple evening of food walk across the town.
So this was a list of my favorite places in Kuala Lumpur. The city has much more to offer and surprise you. If you have time you can spend a good week in here and never get bored. The natural wonders nestled within high-end modernistic architecture makes KL a perfect holiday retreat devoid of any lavishness. This city is truly wonderful and makes you sigh with a twenty-first century cultural Zion when you take off from the city. A city that spells true Asian elegance, Kuala Lumpur should definitely be on your list of Asian destinations’ for the year.
