If you were the king or queen of parties in high school, chances are you got away with hosting a booze-filled dance party in your house or backyard. As you and your friends, family or colleagues attend more and more parties, however, it can become hard to keep things fresh and interesting. Here are some tips on how to really wow your guests at your next party.
Commit to your theme
Themed parties make some people cringe, but if you organize them well, they will become memorable events and go down in your friendship group’s history. To pull off a themed party you will need to be really committed to your theme and match every aspect of the party to it – from the room décor and the food to the music and the dress code. If you and your friends are not used to themed parties, a good place to start would be a throwback party, where the theme is a specific decade in the past. If you are organizing a reunion with your old college friends, for example, why not host a throwback party with the theme of the decade you were all in college? The music and outfits you all choose are sure to bring back memories!
Choose a good venue
If you host your party in a stunning venue, you will have done half the work of throwing an amazing party even before you plan what is actually going to happen on the night. There are some incredibly beautiful venues available to hire for private parties, and a venue with character will lend a special feel to your event. To make your party even more unique, choose decorations, foods and perhaps even a dress code which reflect the time and/or place when your party venue was built. The result will be an immersive experience which is sure to stay with your guests for a long time.
Hire a soloist
DJs are fun, but to take your party to the next level consider hiring a solo musician who can sing and accompany themselves on a musical instrument at the same time – usually this will be a piano, keyboard or guitar. Soloists are a great addition to a more formal party, a low-key party or a party where the guests will spend most of their time seated, such as a dinner party.
Organize an immersive experience
To take the idea of the themed party even further, why not organize an evening of action in the form of a murder mystery soiree? Alternatively, if solving mysteries isn’t your thing, you could plan a party where everybody gets to learn to make a certain food, such as sushi rolls, or a selection of fancy cocktails. If you’d rather have your food and drinks delivered to you ready-made, you could organize a wine and cheese tasting party. If your party revolves around specific foods and drinks, make sure to ask your guests in plenty of time if they have any dietary requirements, or they won’t be happy!
