How to Make Nutella Strawberry Cream Puffs?
Step 1: Cut out hearts from puff pastry
Preheat your oven to 350°F or 180°C, and line a 9x13 inch baking tray with parchment paper. Cut out hearts from a thawed store bought pastry dough using a heart shaped cookie cutter.
Now easily remove the excess pastry dough. And you will be left with the heart shaped pastry dough.
Step 2: Brush your Puff pastry hearts with egg wash
To make the egg wash you got to combine 1 whole egg at room temperature with 1 tablespoon of Milk. You've to keep the ratio 1:1. Why do we use milk for Egg wash? Well, milk is fat. Instead of milk you can use heavy cream as well. When you combine fat with egg the baked hearts gets a shiny golden brown sheen on them.
Step 3: Bake your Heart Shaped Puff Pastries
Before you bake them, sprinkle some sugar on top. This gives them an even better golden shine. Now, finally, Bake your heart shaped puff pastries in a preheated oven at 350°F for 18-20 minutes or until lightly golden brown on top.
Step 4: Slice the puff pastry hearts in half
Once the heart shaped puff pastries are baked transfer them to a wire rack and allow the Puff Pastry hearts to cool down completely at room temperature.
Now use a sharp knife to gently slice the puff pastry hearts in half.
Step 5: Make Whipped Cream
To make Whipped cream, combine 1 cup or 240 ml cold Heavy Cream or heavy whipping cream with 2 Tablespoons of confectioner's sugar and ½ Teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract.
Use a handheld mixer or a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, and whip the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and sugar at medium-high speed until you see medium high peaks for 3-4 minutes. Medium high peaks are - somewhere between soft/loose peaks and stiff peaks. This is exactly the consistency we are looking for this recipe.
Use it immediately for your heart shaped puff pastries.
Step 6: Transfer to a piping bag
Transfer your Whipped cream to a piping bag and use a nozzle of your choice.
Scoop Nutella into a bowl and microwave it for 15-20 seconds in a medium-low setting.
Transfer Nutella into a piping bag.
Step 7: Pipe Nutella and then Whipped cream
First Pipe Nutella onto the base layer of the heart shaped Puff Pastry. Then, Pipe Whipped Cream using any nozzle you want. I figured that this particular nozzle tip gave a depth to the heart pastries.
Step 8: Assemble the Heart Puff Pastries
Cut Strawberries in thin slices and place them over the Whipped cream. Top with the other half of the puff pastry and your Nutella Strawberry Heart Puff Pastries are READY!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Recipe Variations:
- Cream Cheese - Instead of Whipped Cream you can use cream cheese. The tarty-ness of cream cheese will pair really well with fresh strawberries and nutella. To make cream cheese frosting combine 4 oz softened cream cheese with 2 Tablespoons of confectioner's sugar and ½ tsp of Vanilla extract and whip it until you see medium peaks.
- Don't slice in half - If you feel that slicing the heart puff pastries will break them then you don't have to slice them at all. you can use one heart for the base and other half for the top.
- Skip the icing sugar drizzle - It's anyway sweet. And if you prefer you can skip the icing sugar drizzle completely.
Can I Use a Different Fruit?
Yes. Strawberries is the best choice when it comes to Valentine's Day or with Nutella. But honestly, you can use cherries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and even peach slices.
Does Nutella harden in the fridge on strawberries?
This recipe is best when eaten immediately. I don't recommend storing them and serving them again. It will definitely lose the golden crust on the outside.
And to answer your question this recipe doesn't use Nutella on Strawberries. In fact, it's the opposite. Here you have strawberries on top of Nutella.
Are strawberry and Nutella good?
