Have you ever been to Kerala? Tucked away in the south-western corner of India, Kerala is said to be God's own country. I have always wanted to explore the tourist places in Kerala. Whenever I would get time I would find myself checking out beautiful places in Kerala. Last February, I got this marvelous opportunity to visit Kerala with my another travel blogger friend. Here's what happened when two travel-freaks met at the land of breathtaking scenery, backwaters, and beauty. Check out the best places to see in Kerala.

Kochi is a major port city and an exceptionally popular of all tourist places in Kerala. It's like any other modern Indian cities except that it is stubbornly attached to its cultural roots and heritage. Kochi is a part of the Ernakulam district.
Kochi is the best place to visit in Kerala to catch the iconic and theatrical Kathakali dancers which are a prime attraction in Kerala Kathakali Center. I started my trip from Kochi airport and then traveled straight to the Cherai Beach.

#2. Cherai Beach
Cherai Beach is one of the most popular beaches of Kochi and also one of the less crowded tourist places in Kerala. Cherai Beach is a beautiful and clean beach that I have ever come across in India where you can feet in the soil and watch the Sun melting languidly into the vast Arabian Sea!
#3. Chottanikkara Temple

This was the first temple that I visited in Kerala. If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful place in Kerala to begin your day then you must definitely visit this temple. This is usually not mentioned in the Kerala tourist places list, however, I took the effort to speak to some locals and they helped me out.
#4. Vallarpadam Church
Kerala has a rich Portuguese influence and this beautiful Church is a testimony to that. Founded by the Portuguese missionaries the picture of Mary and the infant Jesus installed at the top of the altar was actually brought by Portuguese merchants during the rule of Vasco da Gama in 1524. Here the local's call Mother Mary as "Vallarpadathamma". You cannot miss this sacred place on your trip to Kochi.

Fort Kochi is amongst the best of tourist places in Kerala you can visit with your family. A place full of diverse history and architecture from the Dutch, Portuguese and British times Fort Kochi is filled with monuments and Synagogues. The Steam boilers and the Fort Kochi beach are amongst the most popular Kerala destinations.

If you are running short of time and want to look for tourist places in Kerala for a one-day trip or a two-day trip then you got to start your trip from Thekkady. The Periyar National Park is located in Thekkady. The Periyar National Park is a popular tourist place in Kerala. You can enjoy Bamboo rafting in the Mullaiperiyar Dam here. Periyar National Park is said to be India's largest Tiger reserve. The Periyar National Park is also home to the best spice garden of the world.

I had the opportunity to stay at Kovalam Leela and its one of the most therapeutic experiences I have had in a while. Kovalam is one of the most favoured tourist places in Kerala and that's the reason it's crowded most of the times. Kovalam to Kanyakumari is just a 2hours 31-minute ride that you must take if you want to discover all the tourist places in India.
#11. Trivandrum
The Richest temple of the world, which has unknown measures of hidden wealth the Padmanabha Swamy Temple which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu is the most popular of tourist places in Kerala in Trivandrum.
Built in the 16th century in the Kingdom of Travancore this is the Richest temple in the world. Even today there are vaults which haven't been opened yet and are kept under the Earth.
You can only visit this temple if you are Hindu. Other points of Intrest in Trivandrum are the Kuthiramalika Palace Museum which is just outside of the Padmanabha Temple. Trivandrum is the capital and the most exciting of the tourist places in Kerala.

While you can get lost in the shopping areas filled with colourful traditional handicrafts and spice-markets there is another part of the city which practically lets you get lost in the wilderness amidst the narrow canals with Kerala palms forming a welcome and hospitable canopy overhead.
You can float along the paddy fields of Kerala. It's a delightful experience that you won't forget anytime soon.
